Key Stage 3: Years 7, 8 & 9
Food Preparation and Nutrition
Students complete 20 weeks, one lesson per week in Food in Y7, Y8 & 9. In this time they will study a range of skills and knowledge through theory and practical lessons. It is expected that students bring ingredients for practical lessons. These can be identified in recipe books that students have. There will also be a range of interesting food science experiments for students to learn key functions of foods and their ingredients.

- Food Safety
Key Stage 4: Years 10 & 11
Catering / Food Preparation and Nutrition
A very popular subject at KS4, students have the opportunity to learn a wide range of key lessons linked to food. These include:
- The food industry
- Job roles and employment
- Health, safety and hygiene
- Legislation
- Food Preparation
- Methods of cooking
- Culinary terms
- Food presentation
- Nutrition and special diets
- Menu planning
- Costing and portion control
- Equipment Communication and record-keeping
- Environmental consideration
- Food Packaging
- Additives
Students also will complete project based work where they complete a 2 course menu of their choice in accordance to a set theme. In this they have the opportunity to demonstrate high skills in products ranging including meringues, pastries, pasta etc.
