Our Intent
- To develop students’ thirst for linguistic knowledge and develop them into inquisitive, resilient and talented linguists.
- The MFL curriculum has a sequential and interleaved structure that has evolved at KS3 and KS4. The structure provides all students with a rich foundation of skills and knowledge.

The department consists of three passionate language teachers who deliver fun, engaging and challenging lessons of French and Spanish to GCSE level. Lessons are planned and delivered in-line with the latest pedagogy in language teaching. Change and a desire to improve practice is a constant in the MFL department. You will develop the four key skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing through games, competitions, design, debate, authentic magazines, stories and songs! You will also be asked to articulate and reflect upon your work and that of your peers as we all strive to make the very best progress in language learning.
There will be many cultural opportunities on offer. This may be as part of a unit of work you are studying, in home learning tasks or further away from the classroom. This may be as part of our annual trip abroad to France or Spain or on smaller excursions such as visits to Language Colleges or authentic French/Spanish restaurants. Of course the year begins with the fantastic European Day of Languages celebration in September.
The MFL department believes that being able to communicate in another language opens doors to other cultures and life-long opportunities. It is far more than just a subject. It is the most valuable of life-skills you can learn.

Key Stage 4: Years 10 & 11
The AQA French and Spanish syllabi is followed. Exams are in all four skills at the end of Year 11. The course content is summarised under the following 3 themes:
